Gemstone

About this service

Gemstone therapy recommends the precise stone, weight, metal, and finger to amplify supportive planetary energies — always prescribed after careful chart analysis.

How a gemstone is prescribed

Each of the nine planets has a corresponding stone: yellow sapphire for Jupiter, ruby for the Sun, pearl for the Moon, red coral for Mars, emerald for Mercury, diamond for Venus, blue sapphire for Saturn, hessonite for Rahu and cat's eye for Ketu. The stone is understood to strengthen the planet it belongs to, which is precisely why the recommendation cannot be made from a sun sign or a chart glanced at.

The question a proper prescription answers is not which planet is weak, but which planet you actually want strengthened. A malefic planet placed to cause trouble in your chart will cause more of it if you amplify it, so strengthening the wrong graha can make a situation measurably worse. That is the single most common error in gemstone advice, and it is the reason a recommendation here follows a full chart analysis rather than preceding one.

You are also told when the answer is no stone at all. A significant proportion of clients who ask about a gemstone do not need one, and are better served by a mantra or a rudraksha. Saying so costs a sale and is the only defensible way to practise.

Weight, metal, finger and timing

A prescription is only complete when it specifies all four. The stone itself is the beginning of the recommendation, not the whole of it.

  • The stone — determined by which planet your chart calls to be strengthened
  • The weight in carats or ratti, scaled to your body weight and the strength of the planet
  • The metal — gold, silver, copper or panchdhatu, matched to the planet rather than to preference
  • The finger and the hand, both of which are fixed by the planet concerned
  • The energising ritual and the muhurat — the day, hour and mantra count for first wearing

Buying an authentic stone without being cheated

Astrological gemstones are natural, untreated stones, and the market for them contains a great deal that is neither. Heat treatment, glass filling, diffusion, synthetics sold as natural and lab-created stones sold at natural prices are all common, and the difference is not something you can judge by eye.

What protects you is a certificate from a recognised independent laboratory — GIA, IGI, GRS or an equivalent — that names the stone, states its origin, and explicitly discloses treatment. Buy on the certificate, not on the seller's assurance, and be wary of any stone priced well below what its stated quality would command.

You are given the specification to shop against and told what the certificate must say, so you can buy from any reputable dealer you choose. Sourcing can be arranged if you would prefer, but you are never required to buy through this practice to receive the recommendation.

Blue sapphire and the trial period

Blue sapphire — neelam, for Saturn — is the fastest-acting of the astrological stones and the one that most warrants caution. The tradition holds that it either suits you strongly or does not suit you at all, and that the answer becomes apparent quickly.

It is therefore prescribed with a trial period: worn for three to seven days, with attention paid to sleep, mood, health and whether anything conspicuous happens. If the response is adverse, it comes off and is not worn again. Any consultant who prescribes neelam without a trial is skipping the one safeguard the tradition itself insists on.

FAQ

Gemstone questions

No, and you should decline any recommendation made on that basis. Twelve sun signs cover the entire population; the stone that suits you depends on the full configuration of your chart. A recommendation without chart analysis is a guess with a price attached.
